Don't make the mistake of assuming that the high emotions that run on this thread (and over on the Intel thread) are exactly representative of any group. Whomever they're from, they're legitimate opinions, but still only from an individual.
Yah, I'm long INTC, and in more ways than one, because I work there. I'm not rabidly anti-AMD; I just lurk here to keep an eye on the other guy. As my boss says, only the paranoid survive.
I can tell you that, personally, my options and I will be a lot more worried when AMD starts posting massive profits or upside earnings surprises - and upside surprises that are in the realm of 'not as bad as we expected' don't count. Being on the positive side, like AMD was in Q3, is a good start.
I rather like having competition in the market. Keeps the big guys on their toes, which drives R&D, which means profits, which means I still have a job.
One thing that I think we all can agree on, whatever pro-/anti- side you're on, is that, at the end of the day, it's making product that matters. Cranking out the silicon, putting it into boxes, and selling it at a profit matters more than "Oooo...oooo....if THIS or THAT happens we'll make millions"-type BS.
If AMD can do that, fine. Intel better be sharp or they'll lose the crown. However, as belligerently as it's been stated on this thread, it's still true: AMD hasn't made a slam-dunk yet, and time is not on their side.
Am I wrong? Could be. Convince me. Give me three or four quarters of positive earnings growth and I'll be concerned. But don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.
