Thread,

Any comments on the following stocks as a Buffett buy? I am looking at both of these as potential buys.

SWY Safeway. Supermarket chain. Recent merger announcement with Dominicks. Can this be a Buffett stock?

RAL Ralston Purina - Puppy Chow and the Energizer Bunny.

FWIW, I recently have changed the way I've been looking at companies with a focus on the brand names and some competitive barriers. The two stocks above appear out of the list as potential buy candidates.

Buffett says to make your list of companies you'd like to buy and only then determine whether the price is right. Here's some that have moved onto my radar screen for now:

HDI Harley Davidson, buy under $27.

BBBY Bed Bath and Beyond, buy under $20.

MSFT Microsoft, buy under $90 => what a business, and the trial might push this stock way down. I'm interested, how much would you pay for MSFT? Is buying at $90 too generous?

AMGN Amgen, buy under $50 --> The pharmaceuticals/biotechs seem to always trade at extremely high multiples, and hoping to get AMGN at $50 is a stretch.

LZB La-Z-Boy. Marginal Buffett co IMO, but seems to be gradually improving, and has room for improvement. I would buy under $15.

Would appreciate any comments if anyone is familiar w/ any of these companies.

Shane
