Electron emission whiskers from CRI
I just received this note from Paul Nordine, president of Containerless Research, Inc.. I'll just pass it on verbatim. For those who aren't familiar with "typical" aspect ratios and tip radii of micromachined silicon structures, check out the pictures in their website. Those are mighty sharp needles.

Dear Mr. Mackey:
I found your discussion group in the Silicon Investor web site about flat panel display alternatives, and thought our new products and web page would be interesting to you and other members in the group. We are supplying single crystal, silicon micro-whiskers, and one application of these devices is for field emission cathodes.
The micro-whiskers are grown on both silicon posts and wafers. The whiskers can be sharpened as well as diamond coated, and we can provide them with various combinations of tip number, spacing, height, diameter, and tip radii as small as 5 nm for field emission applications.
Our web site has specifications and SEM photographs which demonstrate in detail some of the samples we have. It also cites some published papers on the work. The web address is: containerless.com. Reading through the postings, I also noticed that someone located the JTEC/WTEC evaluation of Russian technologies at itri.loyola.edu. Our micro- whiskers were discussed at this site by Christopher Curtin.
I look forward to your reply and any discussions and insights our new products may provide.
Sincerely,
Paul Nordine President ************************************* Containerless Research, Inc 906 University Place Evanston, IL 60201 . E-mail: cri@containerless.com Web http:/www.containerless.com/cri/ Phone (847)-467-2678 Fax (847)-467-2679 ************************************** |
