This Weeks Picks:
MMG- Metromedia International Group, Inc. is a global communications and media company. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Metromedia International Telecommunications, Inc., the Company owns and operates communications and media businesses in Eastern Europe, the Republics of the former Soviet Union and other emerging markets. These businesses include wireless and wired cable television stations; FM radio stations; radio paging operations; and a variety of telephone operations including GSM cellular, international toll calling, fixed wireless local loop and trunk mobile radio. Through its approximately 58% ownership of Metromedia China Corp., MITI operates ventures supporting Public Switched Telephone Networks and GSM systems in China. Fundmentally speaking this is a great stock at these valuations, with stock price at nearly half of book price and a PE at 1.25. However, market momentum is driving this stock down. At these levels we think the stock is due for a jump and at least a recovery of 30-40%. Current Price 2 3/4.
FAX- First Australia Prime Income is a closed-end, non-diversified management investment company. The portfolio consists primarily of Australian government and semi-government securities. The stock is at a 52 week low, with yield at nearly 13%. Certainly one of the biggest questions are its investments in Asian debts, however, if you are a risk taker, and believe that Asia has hit bottom then this is a stock you should look into. Current Price 5 9/16.
VSNT- Versant Corporation designs, develops, and supports high performance object database management systems for commercial applications in distributed computing environments. The Company's core product is the Versant Object Database Management Systems. THe product line has seen increased acceptance and use. With Sterling Software and ADC Telecom both integrating VSNT's ODBMS technology into its system, this bolds well for future market penetrations. At these stock price levels we think it is a steal. Easily doubling your money within the next year. Current Price 2 1/4.
ADCT- ADCT designs, manufactures, and markets enterprise networking systems, transmission and connectivity products for use in fiber optic, twisted pair, coaxial and wireless broadband global networks. We think this is a great company with a great product line. At these levels it is certainly attractive. We see return to the mid 20s in the near future and should be a solid upper 30-40 dollar stock in the long term. Current Price 18.
