G'day all - dear Steve, thanks for the Oxfam article. There is no doubt that Oxfam's gripe regarding the human cost is legitimate. And indeed, it is disheartening to see the mass suffering of that magnitude of the innocent regardless of any misgiving of the current or past Indonesian govt regime. Also, IMF has made mistakes and it needs reforms itself. Having said that, it is an organisation to deal with financial crisis. Of course, this does not absolve it from being impersonal. After all, what's the use of saving the system if the most of the people of the nation are decimated!
As a long time [financial] supporter of Oxfam USA, I can criticize it just the same. The amount of its fund allocated to fund raising is not to my liking, but, sometimes one has to take the good with the bad.
