Jay,

I agree with the notion that we should not aid and abet corruption in Asia. There have been serious questions raised in this regard in the political arena and I wish more were being done to correct the situation. I also am not happy with the taxpayers being asked to continuously refund the doubtful policy prescriptions of the IMF.

But on the subject of small investors getting burned by the collapse of mutual funds with Asian exposure, I disagree with you. Those investors acted under free will and should take the hit for those investments. The only qualifier is if a fund got involved in Asia that was specifically prohibited from such action by its charter. But as far as an investor claiming ignorance of the true risks in those investments, too bad. People should not invest in things they don't understand.
