Bob - Re:"Hal Hardenbugh & Dr. Dobbs & Merced"

Thanks for the great tip! I'll check it out next week for sure.

Your mention of Hal Hardenbergh made me chuckle. Just yesterday, a good friend of mine (also an Intel afficionado) and I were reminiscing about this guy Hal.

During the early/mid 1980s he wrote an article called "DTACK Grounded", and it might have been published in Dr. Dobbs Journal - my memory is a little unclear.

The gist of his articles was ALWAYS (I mean every doggone issue!) how inferior the Intel 8086 architecture was, especially the IBM/PC, and how the Motorola 68000 (it had some pin with the nomenclature "DTACK") was infinitely superior and would lead to the imminent destruction of Intel.

Fast forward to January, 2 1997! Now Hal Hardenbergh is writing about new Intel architectures. How far we've come!
