Ancor Communications Debuts Eight-Port Fibre Channel Switch for Windows NT Market at Networld + Interop
Working SAN in Booth Features Software from VERITAS
ATLANTA, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Ancor Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ANCR - news) unveils its new eight-port Fibre Channel switch today to demonstrate a high- performance storage area network (SAN) aimed squarely at the booming NT market. The demonstration will take place at Networld + Interop in both the Ancor and VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS - news) exhibits and at the VERITAS User's Group meeting later this month.
Ancor, a leading Fibre Channel switch provider, and VERITAS Software, the leading provider of end-to-end storage management software solutions, will demonstrate the capability to switch storage data at gigabit speeds directly between Compaq servers and ATL tape drives. This capability speeds data backup by eliminating the need to move data through the server, across the local area network (LAN) and back through the server to get to the tape.
According to David Spenhoff, VERITAS vice president of marketing, ''Ancor's low-cost GigWorks MKII-8 and VERITAS NT NetBackup Software delivers a high- performing, easy-to-manage SAN at an affordable price. This solution allows IP servers and switches to be separated from competing storage traffic, returning bandwidth to the LAN.''
Carla Kennedy, Ancor vice president of marketing, believes this solution is where the promise of Fibre Channel technology finally pays off. ''With the GigWorks MKII-8, announced last week, we're certain we offer the right Fibre Channel hardware at the right price for the NT market, but as the computing world knows, it's not a solution without the right software. VERITAS provides the missing piece to the SAN solution.''
About Fibre Channel
Fibre Channel is an ANSI-standard, high-speed, low-latency data communications technology that provides gigabit-per-second transmission rates in storage/server environments and high-performance networks. Ancor GigWorks(TM) products combine the speed and simplicity of channels with the flexibility of networks to solve bandwidth problems caused by the transfer of large data files among storage, server and client nodes in high-performance compute environments. Ancor Fibre Channel products provide optimal speed and throughput for data-intensive applications such as shared storage, CAD/CAM, visualization, data mining and file backup.
