COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Emulex Corporation (NASDAQ:EMLX), an industry leader in fibre channel products and technology, today announced that it will demonstrate LAN-free tape backup on a fibre channel network during Fall Networld+Interop. The fibre channel demonstration utilizes the Emulex LightPulse(TM) LP7000E Fibre Channel PCI Host Bus Adapter and the LH5000 Digital Fibre Hub, Scalar 218 DLT tape library, and FCR 100 Fibre Channel/SCSI router from ADIC (NASDAQ:ADIC), and Computer Associates' ARCserveIT Enterprise for Windows NT. "Fibre channel provides a cost effective, high-performance, scalable solution for storage management making it ideal for tape backup. With Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop, backups can be performed in a storage area network, therefore eliminating backup data from LAN traffic," said Mike Kane, Emulex director of fibre channel marketing. "We're excited to team with storage management industry leaders such as Computer Associates and ADIC to demonstrate fibre channel in action," he added. The Emulex LightPulse family of fibre channel products includes the LP7000E with on-board data buffering to maintain high levels of data throughput performance in large configurations or over extended link distances. Industry standard benchmark testing has shown LP7000E throughput performance over 10 kilometer links to be more than double that of competitive products. Designed to support mission critical enterprise applications in networked storage including tape backup, the LP7000E provides the industry's widest set of operating features including support for all fibre channel topologies and classes of service, and both SCSI and LAN protocols. The LightPulse family also includes the recently introduced LH5000 Digital Fibre Hub providing a revolutionary new tool for OEMs, system integrators and administrators of fibre channel systems. The LH5000 Digital Fibre Hub self-healing features include automatic fault isolation and recovery, fault analysis, and performance analysis and tuning providing increased fibre channel arbitrated loop performance, manageability and availability critical in tape backup applications such as CA's market-leading storage management solution, ARCserveIT. "CA worked closely with Emulex and ADIC to recently launch the Enterprise Library Option (ELO) for ARCserveIT Enterprise Edition," said Gil Arbel, CA vice president of enterprise management marketing. "We are pleased to team up again to demonstrate how ELO illustrates fibre channel's ability to deliver high performance and scalable storage solutions." ARCserveIT Enterprise Library Option provides enhanced scalability and efficient utilization of storage resources by sharing high-capacity, higher cost devices across Storage Area Networks. "ADIC is pleased to be working with Emulex and Computer Associates both to develop and to demonstrate next-generation solutions for sharing storage resources in Fibre Channel Storage Area Networks," said Jonathan Otis, ADIC vice president of product management. "The performance and scalability advantages are critical for all of our customers. We are offering hardware support for fibre channel backup through our FCR Series of fibre channel-SCSI routers and through our fibre channel-ready tape libraries."
