Zurdo (Mohan)...Let's be a little careful here...
From every thing I've seen, it appears that Piper Jaffray (Kumar) made a statement to the effect that corporate IT spending will be down in 1999 (or, at least, growth rates will be reduced). He is probably right...To date (and I havent checked every post since last night), nowhere was there any forward-looking statement (by PJ/Kumar)concerning Dell's sales...that rumor got started by some idiot (trader, MM...I dont know), and spread like wild-fire....
By last night, it was, for the most part, all cleared up..Needless to say, I dont see the point in sending any nasty emails to PJ/Kumar...It would only make the sender look bad.
I really dont know how you could possibly stop this in the future..but certainly, there is nothing wrong with PJ/Kumar making the statement (that they apparently made)....In fact, they are one group (one of the few) whose opinion I respect/ who I pay attention to...since their calls have been so accurate in the past....Having said this, it is not conclusive that a slowdown in corporate IT spending will lead to slower growth for Dell, but it is a situation worth monitoring....As we all know, Dell has shown an extroadinarily ability to grow at a large rate in environs in which overall PC sales growth is slow or non-existent...
If anything, use these opportunities to load up on Dell, and let the lemmings on Wall Street buy and sell on the latest rumor...You will be richer for it...Is it any wonder that Buffett lives in Nebraska? |
