I agree with you on terribly negative effects welfare system had on the country. Welfare expansion initiated the explosion in out of wedlock births which fueled crime waves for past 30 years (which we just started to control by locking up millions of people behind bars - as permanently as possible).

Last night I watched the Nightline program about an Y2K survivalist family. I was mildly amused by their thorough preparation work until it was noted that the father is a software programmer/manager for 30 years and has a Ph.D in computer science from Stanford!

Welfare checks stopping may not be the only gripe for the urban poor. How about the possibility of electricity blackout for days? We could have a real chaos!

No doubt about it. Millenial Angsts are taking shape.
