Steve,

A word of wisdom from the Humble One:

Dollar cost averaging does not work for a stock that has a long term trend of going lower.

It may work for a year or two, due to the ripple effect that most stocks display. So if that is the nature of the stock you own, get out in time! Will it work for the 'dog' that I own called WDC? My average price is 12.5.

I made good money on AMD by averaging down. Jumped off in the middle of 95 with a 50% gain in a year or so. Had I stayed, I would have a 50% loss today.
