Thanks, Daniel.
Thanks, for the information. Certainly from now on I will try to scrutinize JD's picks better and hold-off on jumping in right after he starts following a new stock.
One of the things that has been a bit disconcerting for me is that all of the picks I made on my own, without much research, have done well while many of JD's picks that I bought into haven't. My picks were: CPQ (Compaq), CSCO (Cisco), SUNW (Sun Microsystems), NATI (National Instruments), and DELL. I have had all of them for several years, except for DELL, which I bought into about a month and a half ago when its price dropped quite a bit. Fortunately, most of my money went into the stocks I picked myself.
I started subscribing to IW almost 4 years ago in order to get ideas for diversification into other industries. SEW, TVF, CPPKY, LSI, CD, GFASX, GFCHX, AAPL, PMRX, and MOT haven't worked out so well. To be fair the BLY (now HLT and BFT), ERICY, CWP, CCR, and SEIC have done okay, but not enough to make up for all the IW duds I invested in. I hope that someday LSI, MOT, and CD will pay off though.
I guess I was naive in thinking that JD was better at this then I was a few years ago as a rank beginner. Ultimately, he probably will turn out to do much better than me, but so far, my more or less ignorance at making my own picks has paid off much better.
The thing that keeps me from getting too upset though is that I have learned some things that, I hope, will help me in the future and JD has done a pretty good job of predicting the economic situation, interest rate cuts, etc. Who knows, even CPPKY, which is less than $.50 now, may someday pay off -- but it sure has a long way to go to get back to my $10 average price. :-) I see no point in selling it now since I have lost almost all the money I put into it. |
