No way is Nokia going to ditch their CDMA chip development. Besides, I wouldn't call their current role in CDMA market "trivial"... as far as I know they have at least 10% share of US CDMA handset market. That's all they need for now, the coming 61xx CDMA handsets should boost that easily above 20%.

It's interesting to see that US patent office has *validated* several key Ericsson CDMA patents. Qualcomm can spin the situation any way they want... but the Ericsson announcement of validated patent claims was pretty unequivocal. If Qualcomm really has a lock on CDMA patents how come the American patent office is granting soft hand off patents to Ericsson? I think this might get very interesting. At the very least Qualcomm's claims on W-CDMA IPR will be badly compromised if Ericsson can show a valid claim on several CDMA patents involved in IS-95 itself... what if the big bad telecom IPR thief turns out to be Qualcomm? I'm sure you would denounce Qualcomm, Maurice, you've been very keen defender of IPR rights.

Texas Instruments result was a bit worrysome. DSP chip sales growth is surprisingly mild. I don't think this bodes well for Ericsson's 3Q results. Nokia's sales *are* rocketing... something's got to give if TI's overall DSP sales growth was just 17%. How will Wall Street react if Ericy underperforms? It might be a volatile day for Nokia. The stellar performance of the last five days is a very good sign, though... whisper numbers must be strong.
