Take it from one who has played with, and bought from, all the current Internet auction sites ... EBay is infinitely and incomparably better than the competition. They are doing just what Net commerce companies should be doing now, and that is perfecting the model while building an immense and fanatically loyal customer base. Your post is practically word-for-word of numerous posts on the Amazon board one year ago when that stock was selling for one-seventh of what it is today. History is teaching us that what counts on the Net is being "firstest with the mostest" ... not diddly-doo about market caps.
