Rather than imposing punishment on their own kind, bureaucrats who drag their feet, our government focuses its fury strictly on private enterprise.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Environmental
Protection Agency is expected to impose its biggest
civil penalty against makers of diesel-truck engines for
violations of clean-air standards, according to officials,
the New York Times reported Thursday.

If approved, the settlement could cost the companies
close to $1 billion and significantly reduce future
pollution from diesel trucks, the report said.

Contrast that with the Red Chinese who single out model workers for celebrity while imposing harsh penalties on backsliders.

BEIJING, Oct 22 (Reuters) - In a sign of desperation
at rampant financial corruption, China's Communist
Party has called on financiers to emulate the ''good
money god of the people,'' a clean-living banker
without a single bad loan in his portfolio.

In a high-finance update of the Maoist-era practice of
anointing model workers, the party financial committee
has selected Rao Caifu as a model banker and made
him the centre of a national financial clean-up, the
Financial News reported.

State media have reported numerous cases in which
state bankers have been jailed or executed for financial
crimes.
