<g> - He did not take me up on that bet! I think I said 18m or so would be net sale value. So gain of 15m is close enough.

Saw the release and listened to the c.call. I am always amazed at how
short-sighted the market can be. Here's the way I saw the important stuff:

(1) The 2 million in deferred revenues:

Let's see - at Sept. 30, 1997 they had 11.75m in def. revenues
At Sept. 30, 1998 they have 15.5m in def. revenues (a 32% increase)

Since 2 mil is attributable to this q, that means at June 30, 1998
they had 13.5m in def. revenues.

Now compare Sept. 30, 1997 and June 30, 1998 - in 9 months def.
revenues grew by 1.75m or about 0.6m a quarter.

Now here is the logic. Come on people stay with me! <g>

If Inprise were stagnant/underperforming etc and were doing the same as the last three quarters only 0.6m would be deferred this quarter not 2.0m. In other words sales would have been my 49.5 m and def. revenues would have been 14.1m. Now am I the only one who realizes that the increase in deferred revenues from a run-rate of 0.6m to a run-rate of 2.0m is a significant accomplishment and means more than anything else that they have garnered a lot of big time sales. I must be! <g> (In the c.call they also mentioned that
they are now seeing deployment revenue - a new thing cp. to just tools
rev. before. Further per SOP 97-2 - they could not take into this q's revenues non-refundable fees!)

(2) Asian Sales Flat:

OK does anyone recall how Inprise said they would first setup the sales force for the Americas, then Europe and only later in 1999 Japan?

OK does anyone realize that the Americas and Europe have shown good
growth?

Does anyone perhaps think that the lack of growth in Japan just could have been caused by the fact that the company has not yet implemented the direct sales force there and that the company there is still the Old Development Window Tools Borland and not the new Enterprise Company Inprise. Amazing! <g>

(3) New Customers - ay caramba - look at the new names!

(4) Increases in Consulting Personnel - just count <g>

(5) Increases in Sales Personnel - just count <g>
