G'day all - dear Crossy, thank you for the kind words. Regarding Russia, while it's GNP may be insignificance to the world's economies, IMHO, it is no hoax. 1st, look at the colateral damage done to hedgers like LTCM. Other anecdotal evidence is the resignations of UBS's CEO and BAC's CEO. My interpretation of the Fed's action is the fear of letting the recession on Wall Street to spread to the Main Street. While these are not entirely the Russian problems per se, it is the major turning point of investor psychology. Internationally, there is also the fear of the ricochet effects in the Latam markets. It is a good thing that the IMF has drawn the line in Brazil [not surprisingly, you may sense that I am actually more sympathetic to IMF, in spite of its shortcomings.]

Speaking of investor psychology, I must confess that this is the 1st time I ve lost confidence. The silver lining is that it forces me to examine myself - the style, the philosophy etc. Anyway, enough of b*t*hing and moaning.

Good luck to your HICO

best, Bosco
