Global MAINTECH Announces Successful Participation at National Shows
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 22, 1998--Global MAINTECH Corporation (NASDAQ BB: GLBM - news) announced today the successful participation at DECUS '98 and ITxpo '98.
DECUS '98, the annual Digital Equipment Corporation users' conference, was held October 5-8 in Los Angeles, CA. This conference marked the formal unveiling of MAINTECH's enhanced alternative to Polycenter's console consolidation software; Polycenter is a software suite for data centers which is not Y2K compliant and will not be supported after December of 1998. MAINTECH was able to present its Virtual Command Center (VCC) alternative to over 1,000 attendees through both a one hour lecture-type presentation given for all participants as well as a standard booth display maintained throughout the conference.
MAINTECH's VCC alternative to Polycenter, tested and promoted to its Polycenter customer base by DEC, was very well received. MAINTECH has now spoken directly with over 200 parties expressing an interest in implementing VCC technology as replacement for Polycenter. MAINTECH and others have estimated the potential market for Polycenter replacement at $100 million.
ITxpo '98, the annual Gartner Group symposium, was held October 13-15 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. 7500 IT professionals representing over 375 major companies were in attendance. The Gartner Group is one of the world's leading information technology research and consulting groups. MAINTECH's first participation at the Gartner Group symposium was well received by a number of prospective customers. Over the course of three days, MAINTECH was able to provide more than 80 one-on-one demonstrations of its VCC to decision-makers in attendance. 400 copies of MAINTECH's newly released CD-ROM were also requested, and MAINTECH is currently preparing for the shipment of several VCC evaluation units as a direct result of participation at ITxpo '98.
ITxpo '98 also provided an opportunity for MAINTECH to demonstrate its revolutionary new E-Bus technology. The E-Bus, which has been under development for over two years, greatly extends the reach and benefit of the VCC by providing a flexible, efficient and inexpensive interface with individual computer processors and networks regardless of their geographic dispersion. Further VCC enhancements are to be announced in the remainder of 1998.
The VCC is the focal point in MAINTECH's suite of systems and network management software products. The VCC is a master console that provides simultaneous control, operation and monitoring for mainframe, midrange, UNIX, Microsoft NT and networks. It is able to respond to messages, events and alerts of a computer enterprise at a single location. The VCC consists of software residing on a freestanding hardware platform. This unique ''outboard'' approach makes the VCC easy to use and quick to install because no invasive agents are required.
Global MAINTECH trades on the NASDAQ Bulletin Board market under the symbol GLBM.
