Denise Thursday October 22, 9:49 am Eastern Time Company Press Release SOURCE: New York Regional Rail Corporation NYRR's Cross Harbor Railroad President W. Robert Bentley to Address National Conference on Cocoa Transportation & Logistics NEW YORK, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- New York Regional Rail Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: NYRR - news) announced this morning that W. Robert Bentley, President of NYRR's operating subsidiary, the New York Cross Harbor Railroad, will attend a national conference on the transportation of Cocoa, to be held in Philadelphia between October 21st and 23rd. In addition to his duties as a panelist, Mr. Bentley will serve as a featured speaker on the subject of ''The Bulk Movement of Cocoa Beans'' on Friday at 9:00 A.M.
This National Cocoa Conference, held each year, alternates its meeting venue between the City of New York and Philadelphia, as the two port districts have distinguished themselves as the destinations of choice for the international shipment of cocoa beans from as far away as Africa, Asia and parts of Central and South America.
The latest figures available indicate that during the past year, the Brooklyn waterfront handled approximately 57% of the nation's cocoa. This is due, in large part, to the cooperation shared between the Cross Harbor Railroad, and its partners in this growing movement, the Port Authority of NY&NJ, American Warehouse, Commodity Storage, and Conrail.
''I'm pleased to report that we've been able to establish a 'car-pool' which facilitates the pre-loading of these cars, to allow for their being ready for the customer within 24 - 48 hours of their shipping request,'' said Mr. Bentley.
''Because of our unique car-floating operation, we are able to provide dedicated or dock-side rail service to any pier-side warehouse throughout New York Harbor. And so the message to all high-volume, high-tonnage freight shippers, is: You don't have to be rail-served to receive DIRECT RAIL SERVICE!,'' he continued.
''My presentation tomorrow will focus on the various methods the Cross Harbor Railroad staff has developed, and now implemented, to facilitate the movement of cocoa beans in bulk, as opposed to palletized bags, often weighing in excess of 150 lbs. each. I am convinced that once this system becomes fully operational, the shipper will realize optimally improved cost-efficiencies, as a result of the streamlined handling of the product, and the resultant time-savings accrued. It is my strong sense that this improved system, along with the continued help and cooperation of our partners in this enterprise, will facilitate expansive growth in the handling of this commodity, for the near and sustained future,'' he concluded.
It should be noted that this coming Monday, October 26, the Railroad will be placing two dedicated car-floats as part of this growing transport of cocoa. One will be situated at Red Hook for American Warehouse, and the other, at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal, otherwise known as the New York City Cocoa Port, for Commodity Storage, Inc.
New York Regional Rail Corporation is the operator of the New York Cross Harbor Railroad, and is actively traded on the OTC Bulletin Board, under the symbol: 'NYRR.'
