Herb,

I think Bull was going to try to use Ancor's old switch to cluster processors. I thought this was probably not a good application, especially since the latency on these switches is very high. I was hopeful that the MKII would be tested in this configuration, but the deemphasis on the LAN would make this application less likely (due to adapter latencies). My last reading of the Bull releases and web pages left me with the impression that they were using FC primarily for remote back up. In that case, you might only need the limited scaling of a hub or in the simplest scenario just a point to point connection. Ancor switches have been used with success in back up like IBM GS, where you need scaling.

As an aside, I talked with a friend of mine last weekend who does a lot of IT contract work. He said that the impression is out there with a lot of pros that a Pentium II based NT server is faster than standard AIX servers. His overall impression was that NT was taking a big bite out of the UNIX market. It is good to see Ancor addressing this expanding market.
