Ashton Mining to explore for diamonds on Euro-Nevada lands in
Tasmania
TORONTO, Oct. 22 /CNW/ - Euro-Nevada Mining Corporation's
wholly-owned subsidiary, Pacific-Nevada Mining Pty Ltd., has
signed a letter of agreement with Ashton Mining Ltd. for the
exploration of diamonds over the approximately 1 million acres
in north western Tasmania owned by Pacific-Nevada. The
exploration program is believed to be the first of its kind in
Tasmania since the discovery of diamonds in river beds during
the 1880's alluvial gold rush.
Ashton, as Manager, will have the right to earn a 51%
interest in the diamonds contained in the project area after
funding has reached the point where 1,000 carats from a single
kimberlite pipe on the property can be demonstrated. In the
event Pacific-Nevada's participating interest dilutes to less
than 30%, its interest shall then automatically be converted to
a carried 5% gross value royalty. Ashton has a four month
option period commencing October 1st, 1998 during which it can
assess the diamond potential and feasibility of the project.
Pacific-Nevada has identified an alignment of discreet
magnetic and coincident electro-magnetic anomalies paralleling
a major regional fault from a high resolution airborne
geophysical survey it conducted over a small portion of the
prospective lands. Pacific-Nevada will continue with its
active A$1.2 million gold exploration program in this region.
