Bob, Nope, Tell was Swiss by birth but an Austrian subject until he led a revolt against The Holy Roman Emperor, hence the Austrian losing streak and the independence of Switzerland. Actually, William Tell was probably a myth, but the Swiss pikesmen defeated Leopold III and his famous Austrian chivalry. Tell was probably invented because the leader of the Swiss rebels, Philip van Artevald, was killed in the Battle of Sempach and that is a bad precedent to quote to men who might be afraid to fight. -g- The Emperor was also killed, starting the mostly inglorious military history of the Habsburgs. -g-
