Eckhard Pfeiffer Keynotes Main Session; Compaq Sponsors IT Executive
Symposium, Provides Backbone for COMDEX Intranet

NEEDHAM, Mass., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Ziff-Davis (NYSE: ZD - news) today announced that
Compaq Computer Corporation will contribute to two major programs at this year's event and, in
addition, Compaq Chairman and CEO Eckhard Pfeiffer will speak as part of this year's keynote series.
COMDEX/Fall '98 runs November 16-20, 1998, at the expanded Las Vegas Convention Center, the
Sands Exposition and Conference Center, and the Las Vegas Hilton.

Eckhard Pfeiffer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Compaq Computer Corporation, will address
COMDEX/Fall '98 attendees at a boxed-lunch keynote on Monday, November 16, at 11:00 a.m. in the
Barron Room of the Las Vegas Hilton. Since assuming overall responsibility in 1991 for directing
Compaq's corporate strategies and operations worldwide, Mr. Pfeiffer has led the company through a
highly successful turnaround and revitalization that Fortune magazine called ''a classic case of
corporate comeback.'' In the space of four years, he has transformed Compaq from the No. 5 to the No.

Digital from a PC to the world's second largest computer company.

Compaq will also co-sponsor the IT Executive Symposium, a unique program produced jointly by ZD
Events and the Yankee Group that examines today's most pressing issues from the CIO viewpoint. John
T. Rose, senior vice president and group general manager of Compaq's Enterprise Computing Group,
will keynote on Monday, November 16, at 9:30 a.m. The symposium will help participants increase the
efficiency and productivity of their business, facilitate better access to data to improve decision-making
and improve their company's flexibility and agility. Attendees will also break out into nine vertical groups
to cover strategic IT issues and asset valuation strategies that are industry-specific. The program begins
at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15 with an executive golf outing, followed by an evening cocktail
reception and VIP seating at the Sunday night Bill Gates keynote. The conference program runs on
Monday, November 16, and Tuesday, November 17, at the Sheraton Desert Inn in Las Vegas.

Compaq, in partnership with Novell and COMDEX, will be featuring server-based hardware solutions as a
component of the COMDEX Intranet: Novell Connecting Points, a complimentary messaging service
located directly on the show floor. The service provides attendees, speakers and media with their own
COMDEX user account to access email, the Web, plus a stream of up-to-the-minute event information.
The COMDEX Intranet: Novell Connecting points, representing the world's largest live single-directory
network, has been nominated for a prestigious Computerworld Smithsonian Award in the category of
