Shoah was an independent film.... not the same as the Civil War or Irish in America which are funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. BTW, Shoah was probably much cheaper to make than the Irish in America since it primarily consisted of interviews and personal recounts of events from people that were there, viewed the trains etc. The Burns documentaries have a much more daunting task of digging up all the documentation of the time... newpapers, photos etc - it takes forever to do that....jmo Michelle
