Tom,

"Asians were generally unpersuaded by this argument. As Japan goes, they maintain, so goes the rest of the region."

About the only thing I could find to argue with. Pretty well agree with the sentiments of Asian investors in the rest of the article. While I see the chance of a full blown US recession less likely to happen than they might, a strong US and European economy are vital to emerging market recovery and Japan becomes less of a factor almost daily. Most of the countries are turning their economies around in spite of Japan. A resurging Japan could actually hurt these other countries if it doesn't come with increased consumer demand.

The US is paying attention to Israel/Palestine issue as Clinton makes his bid for a Nobel prize, but you have targeted the area we should be concentrating on - RUSSIA. I'm becoming very angry when I think of the problems this administration could be creating for our grandchildren. Jean Kirkpatrick was on C-Span Sunday and expressed similar views.

Irish Potato Famine. My ancestors on my mother's side came over to escape the famine (Mingus). Have read a lot about it in addition to the stories handed down thru my grandfather. I see no comparison to Russia unless you want to class the Russian Mafia in the role of the English. There will be food available in Russia because if nothing else, we'll send it to them, but we better start soon. Get the cameras there to shoot the starving children and put it on Nightline!!

Best,
Ron
