>>A former governor on the right? Who do you have in mind?>>
I don't know them well, but I meant "right" in a relative way. It aint difficult to be to the right of Gore. Aren't there any demo governors left? But I anticipate a republican governor will win next time. Maybe Christy W. of NJ, or something like that.
>>Schwartzkopf planned and ran the Gulf War and simply retired. But somehow we get this big deal about Powell like he was Eisenhower and Marshall combined and had just defeated the Axis. Did I sleep through something?>>
I saw a PBS documentary, I recall, where they claim both Schw. and Powell tried their best to dissuade Bush first from sending the troops, then from any active action. Sure, when decision to akc was made, Schw. planned and ran the things, but he also made the big mistake of letting Iraquis to keep the helicopters and to fly them almost anywhere. he was told they need them to transport administrators and medicine. Then they used the hely gunships to gun down the curds and the rebels in the south. Have not both of them (Schw. and Powell) "write" and sell books? I guess they're retired comfortably.
<<He may be a nice guy and all, but it sure seems to me that this "groundswell" of support is a load of public relations hogwash. Hell, if popularity alone is our criteria let's nominate Michael Jordan, I'll bet he has even higher positives than anyone else we could name.>>
Ever see the "Spin City", an ABC sitcom? That's how they do it there - the mayor is a tall and hansome figurehead, and the business is run by aides.
