Rob.; I asked Pat sev. questions for posing at the annual meeting. Sev. pertained to the issue of whether Amati was thinking deeply about how to transition from a technology firm to a commercial entity with functional expertise in mfg. sales, etc. Pat did an ex. job of reducing my concerns about whether JS etc. were thinking and acting to get the firm moving ahead to put these issues high on their list of priorities. I still have some concerns re. how they will put the production in place with adequate control of quality and cost if the ramp up of sales is as steep as we would all hope. Obviously, the prob. is more acute if the technology is constantly changing while they are trying to put the capacity in place. On the other hand, I marvel at the skill with which I have seen some other firms such as Intel and Microsoft pull it off. However, in their early days, they both missed many launch dates etc. If the technical advantage is strong enough, the world will give you a few mistakes but, if the competitive environment is essentially at parity, watch out. At this point, amtx has some breathing room with their tech. pos. However, with other big fish in the water with a lot of money to devote to the problems, who can say with certainty that the window will stay open long enough for amtx to establish defenses for their flanks.
