SB, If the work being done doesn't result in the stock going up (EPS increase), then the company can't afford to increase employee salaries and is better off having paid in options. The employee holding options is motivated to work to increase EPS since he will loose financially if unsuccessful. To date, IBM has not bought high and sold low re. buy backs. One can assume that the board will not continue to authorize buy backs if the stock is over priced. Since IBM's core debt has been dropping, it is safe to assume that borrowing is not being used to support the stock buy back. JMHO. Scott
