The toronto market was hit yesterday

Toronto-Oct. 21-FWN/UPI--THE TORONTO STOCK EXCHANGE'S (TSE) 300 composite index dropped 20.07 points to 5,850.64 today.

The narrower TSE-100 index dropped 1.45 points to 359.2 and the Toronto-35 index was down 1.45 points at 326.18.

Trading volume totaled 99.5 million shares, worth CD$1.85 billion (U.S.$1.20 billion).

Declining stocks outnumbered advancers 496-463, with 295 stocks unchanged.

Seven of the TSE's 14 subgroups were lower, with transportation up 138.42 at 5,816.59.

Active stocks included BCE Inc., down CD$1.40 (91 U.S. cents) at CD$46.25 (U.S.$29.93), and ATI Technologies, down CD$95 (61 U.S. cents) at CD$13.60 (U.S.$8.80).

Large price changers included CN Railway, up CD$3.05 (U.S.$1.97) at CD$75.05 (U.S.$48.57), and Jetform Corp., down CD$4.20 (U.S.$2.72) at CD$21.75 (U.S.$14.08).
