If you say you have little argument why do you then proceed to argue. You been watching this work too often from the Oval Office. Gates was right on in predicting the power of the PC and he put his money where his thoughts were and invested every penny he could muster to buy the OS. Your reference to his lack of ethics would only suggest that you have buried your head in the sand regarding the cross examination of his arch accuser Mr.Barksdales. To cover his tracks Barksdale is calling his present and former associates everything from being liars to being stupid.

In my post I pointed out that Gates invented nothing- did you read my it? Why then do you point it out as if it hadnot been mentioned.

Nothing was dumped in Bill's lap; he went out and found a system that was testing 16 bit cpu boards - would you have been able to put that all together on such short notice? Why did IBM come to his door? Did they do it randomly or had he built a reputation. Imagine a "kid" being approached by OBM to develop an OS. I am sure Big Blure did not undertake it lightly.

He publicly bad mouthed the Browser/Internet to buy time because he was well aware that they were behind and indeed wanted to discourage any thought someone might have had to implement the Larry Ellison thin client concept on a grand scale. This sort of trickery falls far short of real dirty tricks such as an incident you might not remember wherein GM bought up all the trolley car cos. in NYC to improve their market.

Gates is a fighter and this is what makes a great company. Oddly it is this nerdy looking guy who is the toughest guy out there and all the whiners hate him for it. I am glad that he is the Chairman of my board and owns such a huge position in the company. What is Barksdales stake in NSCP % wise?

You miss a larger point in my missive. Gates is not bound by a NIH (not invented here) posture which shackles so many other scientifically oriented cos. where egos come before earnings.

How did his monopoly take the internet? It wasn't until they had the better browser that IE eclipsed Navigator/Communicator and all the while NSCP was giving away their browser. I have owned 4 or 5 NSCP browsers and have downloaded all free of charge. By the way I own a Mac and own both IE4.0 and NSCP Communicator 4.5. I find them very competitive and use them alternately each having certain features which makes for interesting consumer comparison and choice. Both were free and MSFT did not bully me into pushing the key to download there free product any more than NSCP did.

When NSCP owned 90% of the market did MSFT go to their local Congressman and lobby Congress for 3 years. No Gates knew he was in America and not the old USSR. He would let the consumer, not the government decide. I highly recommend that you read the summaries that encapsulate the DOJ vs.MSFT trial to date referred to elsewhere on this board. It would appear that you are a sensitive 90's guy who is emotionally involved and afraid to listen to the facts. Disabuse yourself of the propaganda and follow the trial. It will show who the real bad actors are.
