1) I agree that service is a sweet spot and believe that is a big reason that CPQ bought DEC was to take advantage of their expertise in that area.

2) When one talks about 'service' making money, one must be talking about the Enterprise. Compaq has been systematically moving toward the 'Enterprise' since it introduced the SystemPro in the early '90's.

3) I beg to differ with Lou's "the era of the pc is over" comment. I'm no Dell fan, but just because IBM can't make money in the consumer market (or low end corporate desktop) doesn't mean that others cannot (specifically CPQ as it rebuilds itself). I do think that Dell will miss out on some nice $$$ because of its lack of Service $$$ next year though (but CPQ won't).

4) LONG on CPQ since '91... read every message on this thread.
