Dear Down South: From what I have read that is how this whole generous stock options business started. Tech startups were low on cash so they paid low salaries and high stock options. Over the years things improved and salaries have gone up but stock options still very generous. Look I dont want to argue this anymore. I am NOT against stock option plans. But I do maintain that in many instances they are NOT administered properly . Also, in truth IMHO only the executive personell and board can really influence a company. Employees, even sales personell are usually influenced more by immediate reward such as commissions and bonuses. The stock option is merely icing on the cake.
IMHO NO OPTIONS should be issued to anyone until and unless the company AT LEAST meets some minimum objective. JDN
