Hello Jane,

I Kings 19

11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

I heard a Christian entertainer (with a decent ministry) speak of the same issue regarding John the Baptist that you have mentioned. He termed it "What he learned in the light, he had forgotten in the dark."

Your disdain for sensationalism and performance replacing worship is shared by many. Revelation 3:14-20 is the wake up call to our churches.
I wouldn't agree that unless a person has doubts they maybe aren't on the right path with God. However as I said earlier, I haven't met any Christians who don't experience them including myself. Yet even in that doubting, God still provides comfort through His word, the guidance of the Holy Spirit or hard lessons learned. Tribulation works patience.

God bless you with the overflowing abundance of His presence throughout this day.

John
