A few corrections...

I can't speak on their behalf, but Westell is an *ADSL* supplier not
a CAP supplier. They have publicly stated their intention to supply
both CAP *AND* DMT modems, whichever their customer prefers.

I know very well they are using DMT because they are using "my" DMT
silicon !! (that is, Analog Devices AD6444 chipset).
Indeed, if you go into the ADI home page (www.analog.com) and look
through the press releases from Sept 95 you will find a nice quote from
Bill Rodey of Westell, saying just that ;)

Secondly, it is hardly "Amati's" DMT. Although they did a lot of the
initial work, there are many other people developing DMT products.
Analog Devices, Orckit, Motorola, Alcatel all have their own systems
in development.

Third, DMT is not as far away as you suggest. Alcatel have had theirs
for a good while, and the ADI silicon is sampling to a number of customers.
And we'll have Gen 2 soon enough, so the maturity is getting there too.

Finally, 6Mps/640K is essentially specifying DMT, as you really need the
sophisticated line code to get that level of performance

Hope this helps
