>>It is a stupid marketing term<<
Precisely, lest we have an entire hierarchy (and you know how this industry loves hierarchies) of dense, denser, densest, Order 2 Densest, Order 3 Densest, etc... It recalls to mind the system of Jumbo Group, Super Jumbo Group, etc. of the industry's older coaxial L carrier genre.
You're right. It's silly. These terms would then become redundant to some extent with the equivalency "OC-" levels they tend to be measured against, and indeed, as they are thus far engineered to accommodate at the other element interfaces.
Which is also debilitating to a certain extent, if you think about it [a glass ceiling effect, if you will (g)], if the industry mind set continues to think in those terms.
What unit of measure do you see being used in the future replacing the current "optical carrier" or "OC" unit, and how would you characterize it...? |
