Dennis, doesn't sound right. The calculation for comparing volumetric efficiency is just ((average Volts) * (mA-hr))/volume. This gives Watt-hours per liter. Watt-hours are a measure of energy (Watt-seconds = Joules).

If you want to compare 2 packs, do V/cell * A-hr/cell * # cells. This gives W-hr for the pack. If the 2 packs don't have the same W-hr, comparing only volumes does not tell you anything.
