I believe that in a company the size of BA, it is very difficult to hold back production issues from leaking out. It takes literally months/years to increase/decrease production rates. As soon as talk of this starts, rumors abound and leak to the local media and the boards.

Best thing management can do is to come clean and offer details. I heard that the electrical connector problems where detailed in the Seattle Times before BA could notify airline customers...this does not make BA management look good.
