EDS And EMC Team to Deliver Year 2000 Testing Solutions
PLANO, Texas, and HOPKINTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 23, 1998--Recognizing time is running out to rectify many Year 2000 software inadequacies, EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC) and EDS CIO Services (NYSE:EDS) today announced availability of a worldwide Year 2000 testing solution.
As a result of this new offering, customers now can contract Year 2000 testing expertise and specialized solutions from EDS and EMC. Using the Testing 2000 service announced by EDS in June and EMC Enterprise Storage systems customized for Year 2000 testing, the companies will collaborate on the plan and execution of customers' Year 2000 testing projects and will participate in a series of Year 2000 joint marketing activities. As a result, users will complete more thorough tests in less time with reduced risk, and improve their ability to focus on revenue-generating business initiatives.
Through the service, customers may have testing performed onsite or remotely at one or more EDS Global Renovation Centers in the United States, Europe and Australia. These sites feature EMC's Enterprise Storage systems optimized for Year 2000 testing with advanced storage software such as EMC TimeFinder for non-disruptively establishing multiple Year 2000 test images, and Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) for non-disruptively loading test data. SRDF also can be used to keep remote images of data in synch with local Year 2000 images.
"This is a powerful addition to the successful EDS testing methodology and end-to-end Year 2000 service we already offer our customers," says John McCain, president of CIO Services at EDS. "Testing is the most time-consuming component of the Year 2000 dilemma, and as time grows shorter, our testing offerings will certainly reduce the number of tests required and the time to complete those tests for companies working on their Year 2000 efforts."
"Nobody has the luxury of putting business on hold while they tend to Year 2000 testing," commented Robert Dutkowsky, EMC's Executive Vice President of Markets and Channels. "For this reason, the Year 2000 time crunch is driving companies to find ways to perform testing in parallel with ongoing business processing. The powerful EMC and EDS combination offers the expertise, advanced technologies and efficiencies to help customers beat this imposing deadline and become more competitive in the process."
EMC Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems with EMC TimeFinder software enable customers to perform simultaneous Year 2000 testing and production data processing. Customers can non-disruptively create multiple copies of their mainframe and open systems production data for Year 2000 testing -- or any other activity that requires a copy of data -- and continue generating revenues and servicing customers.
CIO Services handles discrete, multi-industry needs with a full complement of EDS resources. As the name indicates, the group works closely with the CIO on a project-by-project basis, allowing EDS to develop relationships with new customers requiring technology solutions to meet their business needs. CIO Services has received the certification of the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) for its Methodology 2000 solution.
