B: N2K INC. ANNOUNCES 1998 THIRD QUARTER, NINE MONTH RESULTS

NEW YORK, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- N2K Inc. (Nasdaq: NTKI), a leading
online music entertainment company, today reported financial results
for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 1998.

Net revenues for the third quarter ended September 30, 1998 were
$10,506,000, a 194% increase from revenues of $3,570,000 reported for
the third quarter of 1997. Of the 1998 third quarter revenues, Music
Boulevard Network and Encoded Music reported revenues of $9,497,000 and
$1,009,000 respectively. The loss for the third quarter, excluding a
one-time previously announced restructuring charge of $4,304,000
related to Encoded Music, was $19,744,000, or $1.39 per share, compared
to a loss from continuing operations of $6,949,000, or $2.25 per share,
for the third quarter of 1997. The third quarter 1998 net loss
including the charge was $1.69 per share, compared to a net loss of
$1.74 per share for the third quarter of 1997.

For the nine month period ended September 30, 1998, the Company
reported net revenues of $27,644,000, a 325% increase from revenues of
$6,507,000 reported in the same period last year. Of the nine month
period revenues, Music Boulevard Network and Encoded Music had revenues
of $24,890,000 and $2,754,000, respectively. The loss for the nine
month period, excluding a one-time previously announced restructuring
charge of $4,304,000 related to Encoded Music, was $49,879,000, or
$3.71 per share, compared to a loss from continuing operations of $16,
698,000, or $5.58 per share, reported for the same period last year.
For the nine month period of 1998, the net loss was $4.03 per share,
compared to a net loss of $5.19 per share for the nine month period of
1997.

At September 30, 1998, the Company had approximately 526,000 customers,
of which 174,000 were first time customers added in the third quarter,
which represents a customer acquisition ramp up of almost 50%.
Approximately 52% of revenues in the third quarter came from existing
customers. In the first nine months of 1998, N2K has added 395,000 new
customers.

The number of pages carrying advertisements increased to 73.7 million
pages in the third quarter, a 17% increase over the second quarter of
1998, resulting in ad revenue of $1,112,000. During the third quarter,
page views on N2K's music channels increased to 92.1 million from 84.2
million in the second quarter of 1998 and 39.6 million in the third
quarter of 1997. In September of 1998, Media Metrix, the PC Meter
Company reported that the Music Boulevard Network had a combined at
home/at work reach of 4.6% compared with a combined reach of 3.2% in
June of 1998.
