BusinessWeek Ranks The World's High-tech Companies DELL NO.1
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Dell Computer Corp. (DELL - news),Britain's Vodafone Group Plc., and Germany's SAP AG (SAP - news) were picked as the first, second, and third best high-tech companies financially by a new BusinessWeek analysis, the November 2 edition of the magazine said.
''BusinesWeek has taken a careful statistical look at the performance in the high-tech industry and unearthed a batch of surprises,'' the magazine said.
Companies were divided into eight categories, including: software, networking, and the Internet, the magazine said.
Then they were judged on four criteria: revenue growth, total revenues, shareholder return, and return on equity, a statement added. Companies that did not grow as fast as their industry were thrown out right from the start, the magazine noted.
Rounding out the top five in order were: Finland's Nokia and U.S.-based Ingram Micro, the magazine said.
And filling out the remaining slots of the top 10 were: America Online Inc. (AOL - news), Compuware Corp. (CPWR - news), Microsoft Corp. (MSFT - news), EMC Corp. (EMC - news) , and Lexmark International Group - all based in the U.S.
The magazine said it plans to conduct the analysis annually.
