I have been a "power user" of computers for many years. To the 486, I just couldn't wait for the next step. A 486 is insufficient to run Windows 95 but since the Pentium (I have a Pentium 166) there is little or no pressure for a new machine.

NOTHING LIKE IT USED TO BE. That's why I sold my main position in Intel a year ago. The pressure to buy is gone and the pressure from the likes of AMD and Cyrix is prevalent.

When new application develop the pressure may come back. But the real pressure for increased speed these days is on the INTERNET.
