Kash, All, re: HDTV

My opinion only, HDTV will be the ultimate toy beginning sometime within the next 12 months. It will probably be "mainstream" within 4 years. As I realized my crystal ball was defective many years ago, I wonder if there are any more informed opinions on how this product will shake out. It seems that the TV manufacturers are more in line with the broadcast standards; that the PC makers *seem* to be able to make a more affordable product, but maybe with a sacrifice of image quality.

I try to read as much as I can about this subject, but the press seems as confused about HDTV as they are about politics. It is certainly an important subject for Intel, with the potential of a huge increase in CPU sales.

A few of my questions:

1. Is the broadcast technology compatible with PC standards; can PC's achieve the same quality as HDTV?
2. Can the PC makers compete with the TV makers on price?
3. Are the PC makers addressing this market (it doesn't appear as if they are)?

The double edge sword of digital TV will change the landscape of the PC industry, maybe for better or maybe for worse. Would like to hear opinions.
