I agree.

Furthermore, all of the S&P 500 issues would have to make a simultainious split.

Just to clarify this point for those not familiar, the S and P 500 issue being the underlying, would have to split first in order for the SPY, the derivative instrument, to split. That is because the derivative is based on the underlying not vice-versa.
