As I understand it the write-off for NeXt will not be in the 4th quarter of 1996, since the acquisition has been agreed upon but not completed yet. Anyway, who knows what is going to happen on Monday. Panic is not the answer. Amelio said after the $25 million profit announcement of the 3rd quarter that Apple will begin to show profit from there on, or something to that effect. He was obviously wrong, and my guess with the purchase of NeXt we may see another weak quarter report before Apple begins to turn a profit. Once Apple shows a profit, even marginal, its stocks will jump up rapidly.
What surprises me is the timing of the announcement. Apple could have waited until after the conference, at which time its stock would have risen to a respectable level, and the share holders would have had a better insight of where Apple is going. I don't think they have good PR officers.
