< WRT OT - Cable Modem Problems... >

Just got my modem installed today. I am getting fantastic service so far. I know about 4 or 5 other customers who all say that their service works extremely well. One customer had a very significant start-up glitch but that's behind him now and he likes his service.

That glitch I am referring to was an incompetent technician who screwed up the computer hard drive with virus protection software while he was doing the installation.

The technician who installed my modem was very competent and he was very flexible in setting up the installation exactly the way I wanted it.

Who ever was writing that note doesn't know what he's talking about because he's referring to "dial-up" problems. Possibly those occur with the Cyber Surfer modems that companies like Daniels Cablevision are using. They require a telephone line for the uplink and use the cable for the downlink only. I could not reccomend buying into that. No one I know with Cox (@home) or Southwest (Roadrunner) is having such problems.

Possibly the author has a vested interest in dial-up type ISPs -- the old order. Cable is king and it will most likely eliminate dial-up wherever it gets deployed.
