When the TCI-T deal was first announced we noticed on this thread that AOL responded to the media immediately with a statement close to:

"Good, now maybe we can get some inexpensive broadband access.".

ATHM responded immediately in the press with a statement something like:

"If AOL thinks ATHM is just a dumb pipe they have to think again. If we are involved, we want a piece of the action.".

Ever since then AOL has been complaining as loudly as they can about the merger. They are screaming monopoly as loudly as they can to get the best possible deal from T that they can (pay me to shut up).

AOL has to do this because once the merger is done they have no leverage and the only leverage they have now is to play merger spoiler.

Does anyone remember that TCI would do the SF Bay Area this fall? Well, it's this fall and it isn't getting any sooner. TCI, where are you?

Good point. Three possible reasons for the slow roll out:

(1) ahhaha's favorite: Because TCI wants to suck up as many digital subscribers as they can before ATHM comes in and cleans out the subscribers pocketbooks. Nobody will pay for both.

(2) Hardware is just not ready.

(3) They want to let the merger end before making any dramatic market rollouts. After all, the headlines will read: ATHM, the only cable broadband internet offering allowed from T-TCI, just opened a major city.
