CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 23, 1998--
CD Racer Sets a New Standard for Price/Performance in Consumer,
Small Office and Home Office Applications
In a dramatic step that makes CD-RW products more readily available to all users in the fast-paced consumer and small office markets, Smart and Friendly, the industry's largest privately held manufacturer of CD-Recordable, CD-ROM, and optical storage technology, today introduced the CD Racer (Part No. SAF792), the lowest cost CD-Recorder with CD-RW ReWritability ever in the Smart and Friendly product line.
"This product will open up a new market for CD-Recorders with CD-RW ReWritability," said Perry Solomon, president and chief executive officer of Smart and Friendly. "For the first time, consumers who had never considered CD-RW technology can now easily apply it to any number of applications including file back up, customization of music CDs, and creation of multimedia presentations."
"This is a CD-RW to watch," said Toren Ajk, research analyst at Peripheral Research, Santa Barbara, CA. "CD-RW pricing is coming down, but until now, no one has come up with a really low-cost product.
The CD Racer Writes at 2x, ReWrites at 2x and Playsback at 24x. The product is shipping now. Price $299
The product manager at HP told me that he expects CD-RW drives to be under $200 by the end of 1999. |
