Thanks Brian, I get several magazines at work and at home but I haven't picked up Network World yet, I will check them out. I have found several investing ideas from trade magazines and periodicals. Sometimes there are some hints that a company is going to do well with a product.
I like to see good marketing adds but in my opinion the comparison tests and recomendations that a trade or consumer periodical puts out help tell the story if a companies products are competitive, then it is up to the company to market the product and that is where many smaller companies fail. Many times there is safety is being a large and established company.
As an example I have been in the market for a scanner. A small company won the best review in PC World but I decided to stick with HP simply because I knew there reputation and past products. Proteon probably has similar problems marketing their products. Sometimes even with a competitive or superior product it is still tough to overcome larger more established companies. This is not to say that Proteon can not have enough success to get out of the red, I think they can, but in order to be a larger player in any market segment they go after it is going to take superior products and superior marketing of those products and the marketing is critical.
