Swing for the fences.........

Means "try to hit a home run" rather than try to make contact. For example, in 1998, Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire led the major leagues in both home runs AND in strike outs. When there is a two strike count, most batters just try to make contact (swing for a single, or swing "to put the ball in play") and settle for a best case scenario of a one-base hit, rather than risk a strike out.

For AMZN, it presumably means a business strategy of taking huge risks for a chance at an extremely favorable outcome.

Best Regards,
Tom
